An outstanding Barolo at a very fair price. It is 100% Nebbiolo of course grown exclusively in the Massolino family's Serralunga vineyards. It's got that hauntingly attractive aromatic profile that can be hard to describe - although the word 'rose' keeps cropping up - as well as a beautifully textured palate with remarkable clarity, purity and ultra fine, ripe tannins. It spent 24 months in large Slovenian oak yet is still very bright, highly refined and simply delicious. It is certainly early days for this wine but it is h so good to drink now if you like finesse. This is Barolo channelling Cote d'Or Pinot. The note below sums it up pretty well. This is yet another bargain from Massolino.
"The 2007 Barolo is a gorgeous wine. An expressive, open-knit bouquet leads to ripe red fruit in a soft, mid-weight Barolo. This is a relatively feminine, approachable Barolo from Serralunga that should drink nicely right out of the gate. It is an excellent restaurant wine, but I don't exclude the possibility of it surprising on the upside in a few years' time. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2019." 89+ points, Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate # 193, Feb 2011
